I've had this post on my blog to-do list for a couple months, but with some extra promotions running this weekend, it seemed like a great time to finally fit it in! Right now, most makeup on the website is currently discounted an extra 10%. If you've never ordered before, you can also save $10 off your first order of $15 or more (up from a usual 5-10%!). Both offers are running until the end of the month (April 30). You can also get an extra 2.5% cashback on your purchases by shopping through Rakuten/Ebates.
I am an iHerb affiliate, but whether you choose to shop through my links or not, I think they're a great source for affordable brands and products, especially for those of us outside the US or with more limited local access to products. For fellow Canadians, I suggest shipping with one of the duties & taxes included options to avoid any surprise charges at the door. I like DHL since it's often discounted for purchases over $40 and almost always arrives within 2-3 days.
Let's get to the goodies! I've explored a lot of iHerb's catalogue over the years, but these are the items I continue to purchase time and time again.
Carrier Oils + DIY Supplies
Dedicated ingredient suppliers are great if you need larger quantities, but for DIY-ing on a smaller, hobby scale, buying smaller quantities of oils, butters, clays, and herbs from somewhere like iHerb ensures that you're always working with fresh ingredients. Staples, for me, include organic sweet almond and castor oils for my homemade oil cleanser (recipe here), shea and cocoa butters for whipped body butters, and clay for face masks.
Hair Care Products
My hair does best when I change up my products regularly, so I rotate between a few different brands. I like gentle products that will get my hair and scalp clean while also providing enough moisture for curl definition and frizz control, and Broo, Dessert Essence, and Acure shampoos and conditioners are regulars in my shower rotation that all possess these qualities.
For styling products, Original Sprout Styling Gel and Kinky-Curly Spiral Spritz and Curling Custard are three of my favourite products to scrunch my curls with. My favourite henna, Rainbow Research Burgundy, was another happy iHerb discovery. (More on my henna journey here and here.)
Makeup Staples + Lip Balm
iHerb isn't the place to go for full makeup lines, but they carry a good selection of some of my favourite affordable brands like Everyday Minerals, Pacifica, Honeybee Gardens, and Mineral Fusion. I've talked about the Everyday Minerals Matte Base, Pacifica Stellar Gaze Mascara and Eye Liners, and Mineral Fusion Lipsticks and Sheer Moisture Lip Tints countless times before, and I continue to use these products on a near daily basis. The lip balms from Crazy Rumors and Wedderspoon are also consistent repurchases for me.
Inexpensive + Mid-Range Skincare
Prices on skincare brands like Mad Hippie, Devita, Derma E, and Acure can get surprisingly up there in Canadian retail stores, so this is another category of products that I typically buy from iHerb. I'm currently loving the Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum, fantastic for hydrating and brightening, the Acure Seriously Soothing Day Cream, a great basic everyday moisturizer, and the Life-Flo Salicylic Acid 2% Roll-On, a gentle but effective spot treatment for pimples and blemishes.
Everyday Shea Hand Soap
I've been using the Everyday Shea hand soap for a couple years now and it's the first liquid soap I've been able to count on to get my hands through our Canadian winters unscathed! Needless to say, I'm pretty loyal to it and I have no desire to stray to another liquid hand wash any time soon. My two favourite scents are the Mandarin Mango and Peppermint Tingle -- my orders generally include at least one bottle of each!
