Flower and Spice: Luxury Modern Apothecary Skincare

If ever I was overdue to talk about a product or company, it's this duo from Flower and Spice.  I started doing some (non-blogging) work for Flower and Spice last summer and Karmen, the company's founder and formulator, kindly sent me a Discovery Set to try out at that time.  The Discovery Set retails for €69.00 and includes smaller sizes of Flower and Spice's two best-selling products: the Midnight Beauty Rich Revitalizing Serum and the Soothe and Repair Daily Moisturizer.

Flower and Spice was created when Karmen decided to leave the stressful world of fashion, video production, and marketing in lieu of applying her longtime passions for green living, cooking, and flowers, herbs, and spices to creating a natural skincare line.  Karmen studied organic skincare science at Formula Botanica and Flower and Spice was born!

Flower and Spice's products were formulated by Karmen in the Netherlands, but are currently produced in a leading natural skincare lab in Switzerland.  The entire line is 100% natural and all products are free of nasty ingredients, animal testing, genetic engineering, and nanotechnology.

Before jumping into things further, I do want to stress that I've mulled over how to best approach this review -- or even to do it at all -- since I have an extra connection to the company, but after using the products on and off for several months, I really do want to share my thoughts on them.  I was not asked to write this and, as always, all opinions are honest and my own.

Keep reading for all the details!

Midnight Beauty Rich Revitalizing Serum (€105.00 for 30mL)
The star of Flower and Spice's line, Midnight Beauty is a potent blend of 10 powerful plant oils: prickly pear, evening primrose, jojoba, argan, sacha inchi, apricot, plum, macadamia, sunflower, and vitamin E.  I've tested a lot of face oils in my time blogging, and this one jumped to the top of my list after only a couple uses.

Midnight Beauty is a silky oil that, while very nourishing, has a nice, lightweight feel on the skin.  It absorbs well, sinks in quickly, and leaves skin looking calm, radiant, and glowy.  The ingredients offer both anti-aging and oil-balancing benefits, making it pretty perfect for my 31 year old combination skin.  I especially enjoy using it in the morning as it creates a perfect base for under makeup.

The oil's scent profile is also pretty unique.  Coriander, non-phototoxic bergamot, and rose essential oils are blended with natural white rose fragrance to achieve a light and fresh floral scent with just a hint of spice.  It's no secret that I typically do not enjoy rose scented products, but the white rose is a softer rose fragrance than I'm used to, and the coriander adds an interesting spicy note to break up the floweryness too.  It's a sophisticated scent that's floral and rosy, but not in a heavy or cloying way.

Soothe and Repair Daily Moisturizer (€72.00 for 60mL)
While Midnight Beauty was an instant love, Soothe and Repair took a little longer for me to warm up to.  In our hot and humid summer, the moisturizer was a little too much for my face and I found my skin producing more oil throughout the day.  I ended up setting the cream aside until the seasons changed, and my skin has loved it this second time around, now that the weather has shifted dramatically.

With the same intoxicating scent as the serum, Soothe and Repair is a lush face cream that offers regenerative and anti-inflammatory benefits.  The impressive ingredients list features hydrating aloe vera and rosewater, nourishing apricot kernel and prickly pear seed oils, rich shea butter, soothing arctic oat extract, and more.

Soothe and Repair is a mid-weight moisturizer that absorbs well.  It has a beautiful creamy consistency and feels nourishing and luxurious.  The moisturizer eliminates winter dry patches and feels pillowy and protective while doing so.  My skin is left plump, supple, and moisturized, without any of the same issues I experienced in the warmer months.  Clearly, it isn't the ideal product for my skin in the summer, but I've loved it throughout the winter.

The Bottom Line
Midnight Beauty has become one of my favourite face oils, and Soothe and Repair is an equally beautiful cream moisturizer, although one that I will personally reserve for wintertime use only.  The company's Instant Glow Calming Exfoliator, which I've also used a sample of, is lovely too.

Flower and Spice is a luxury brand, no doubt, but if you're looking for quality natural skincare and the products are within your budget, they are well worth the price.
